Martin Luther King Jr. was an activist and a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. King inspires me through his meaningful quotes to always stand up for what I believe in, even if it opposes the popular opinion. King fought for integration. He stood up for colored people and believed in God, equality, and love. I aspire to be as strong and courageous as he was.
My favorite quote of Martin Luther King Jr.'s is "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." This quote truly speaks to me. To me, the darkness represents our world. Everywhere, there is some form of hate. There are wars between countries as well as fights between teenaged girls. The darkness in this quote represents our world. Everybody wants to see a change, but nobody wants to be the change. We complain about these wars and teenage drama, but nobody wants to be the person to stand up against it all. That is what inspires me most about King. He saw the need for a change, so he became the change.
Great analysis of quotes and a good understanding of it as well. I like your personal opinions, and I especially like the teenage drama part.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you explained why that is your favorite quote. I also liked how you used a microcosm and macrocosm when explaining the quote- teenage drama and the World as being the darkness.
ReplyDeleteI love how you related this quote to big and small things. I also like how you described the difference between being the change and seeing a change.
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent post. It reminds me of a quote that Ghandi said, "Be the change that you want to see in the world." I really enjoyed reading this.
