Reading Response
I have discovered many things about The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I have found that I am enjoying the book, though I did not think I would at first. I have also found how relatable the book is since it is written in the perspective of a teenage boy. Deep down everybody wants to fit in and be accepted. Though, sometimes we feel that we are not good enough.
The differences that the author provides between people who live on the reservation and people who live in Reardan astound me. I never realized how different the opportunities are for those other than people in my community. I also never realized that a great deal of people did not have the option to attend college. The author's writing makes me empathize Junior. I truly hope that as I continue to read this book I find that Junior reaches his full potential and becomes successful.
Time spent on book: 40 minutes
Time spent on paper: 60 minutes

Free post-My dogs
I have two dogs. Their names are Chase and Hope. Chase is a black German Wirehair. Hope is a white Catahoula Cur. Chase is about three and Hope is about 4.
Both of my dogs are rescue dogs. This means that they were both originally strays. We got Chase two years ago over Mardi Gras break and we got Hope three years ago over fall break. Both of my dogs are like members of the family. They are well-loved by everyone in my family.

Last Semester
Last semester, I learned that high school required much more time and effort than middle school. People had been saying it, but I never realized how literally they meant it. I get good grades, but in middle school I did not have to try very hard to achieve good grades. Though, I learned the hard way that the same rules do not apply to high schoolers. I am taking three challenging honors classes, and when I did not do as well as I had hoped on the first tests I took in those classes, I new something needed to change.
I knew that I could change my study habits and productivity. This would mean beginning homework as soon as I got home rather than watching TV for an hour and not starting my homework until later that night. This would also mean that I needed to start reviewing what we learned in class at home in order to lock that information in. Also, I started to study for tests 1 week in advance rather than 1-2 nights in advance. I began to see improvements in my grades and just like that I had my good grades again.

Witchcraft in medieval Europe
The topic for my research paper is witchcraft in medieval Europe. I am writing about how the Christian church impacted witch trials and executions. This topic is interesting because it is very ironic. Christians hunted and killed "witches" who had no real proof of hurting others, though Christians across Europe killed over 100,000 women from the 1100s to the 1500s. This also breaks one of the Ten Commandments "Thou shalt not murder."
My research question is "What role(s) did the Christian church play in defining witchcraft and persecuting witches from the 1100s to the 1500s?"Christians in medieval Europe felt threatened by witches because they believed they were working with the Devil. Some theologists and experts on the topic argue that witch trials were a way to form a more structured Christianity with stricter principles and more organization. I am excited to answer my question and learn more about so-called witches.

MLK
Martin Luther King Jr. was an activist and a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. King inspires me through his meaningful quotes to always stand up for what I believe in, even if it opposes the popular opinion. King fought for integration. He stood up for colored people and believed in God, equality, and love. I aspire to be as strong and courageous as he was.
My favorite quote of Martin Luther King Jr.'s is "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." This quote truly speaks to me. To me, the darkness represents our world. Everywhere, there is some form of hate. There are wars between countries as well as fights between teenaged girls. The darkness in this quote represents our world. Everybody wants to see a change, but nobody wants to be the change. We complain about these wars and teenage drama, but nobody wants to be the person to stand up against it all. That is what inspires me most about King. He saw the need for a change, so he became the change.

Research Update
My research is coming along smoothly. I feel like I have a strong research question with good sources to back it up. I feel like my research question is interesting and I will have fun learning more and more about my topic. I feel good about my annotations.
Though, I am having some trouble coming up with my three main supporting points. This has made it difficult to do my notecards to the best of my ability. I need some help with creating these points. Overall, I think my research is going well, I just need a little guidance to keep me on the right track throughout the process of writing my paper.
